I must start this article with an apology as I’ve been MIA the last week or so and haven’t posted any new material for you all to read through. When Kat and I returned from Rome I was dealing with a nasty cold and work kept me really busy. I’m now back to fighting fit (ish) and have set aside some time this morning to get this showcase posted. Thankfully Lillyxandra is incredibly pleasing to the eye so it’s made the process a whole lot easier.
I forgot to mention that I also did a cosplay and steampunk photoshoot on Sunday, which all went very well. It was a great opportunity for me to trial a few ideas and get some more low lighting photography experience. I’ll get some pictures posted either later today or tomorrow.
Update over, now for the main event! Introducing the work of JoEllen, known as Lillyxandra.
Yet again Deviant Art put me in touch with this multi-talented lady, who not only cosplays but designs, produces and sells a range of stunning outfits and jewellery aswell. She honestly puts me to shame as I also consider myself multi-talented, though on a much lower level compared to this busy bee.
Lillyxandra Cosplay and Costume Design Pictures
Initially I thought that JoEllen was a cosplayer and that alone when I found her online portfolio. The quality of the pictures and the amazing costumes make her portfolio really stand out but after delving further into her work I discovered the truth. Many of the outfits in JoEllen’s portfolio were made by her, as were the numerous jewellery pieces also displayed.
To give you an idea of just how talented JoEllen is check out this intricate creation that she was commissioned to produce by a customer.
I was only going to show you her cosplay costumes as I know most of our readers come here for that, but seeing as this is a showcase I’m going to show you all a mix of cosplay, commissioned outfits and some cool costume jewellery. Let’s get on with it shall we!

A Q&A With Lillyxandra
Now that we’ve looked at her fantastic work we can move onto learning a thing or two about the lady behind Lillyxandra. A huge thank you to JoEllen for answering my questions and allowing us to showcase her work.
1. What made you get into cosplay?
I’ve always loved dressing up for Halloween. Cosplay was another chance to dress up.
2. How old were you when you started cosplaying?
I was 20 when I made my first cosplay costume.
3. What was your first costume?
4. Do you make your own costumes?
5. Where do your source your materials or the pieces for your costumes?
I’m lucky to live in LA where we have an amazing fabric district. I buy all my fabric and notions there.
6. How long does the average costume take to make or put together?
It really depends on how elaborate the design is. It can take anywhere from one week to two months!
7. Do you design and make original costumes or do you create replicas of costumes worn by characters?
I mostly design original costumes for myself and customers.
8. What would be your super power if you could only have one?
Flying!! Or even better the magic ability to create the perfect fabric. Haha I think that would be more useful.
9. Do you attend cosplay conventions or events? If yes how many do you attend in an average year?
I do! I usually attend at least three convention a year.
10. Who’s your favourite cosplayer? (Could be a friend or a famous personality in the cosplay scene)
My favorites change all the time. Right now I’m really into Team Unicorn.
11. Who’s your favourite character to cosplay?
Alucard from Castlevania.
12. Favourite TV show, movie and band?
Right now I’m into Once. Its all about fairy tales so its right up my ally.
13. Do you cosplay for a living? If not, would you do it if the opportunity was offered to you?
I do not dress up for a living but I do make costumes for a living. I’m a costume designer and make-up artist making a living off doing the things I love in LA.
14. What’s going to be your next cosplay costume?
Not sure if I have one for myself but my next big project is making costumes for the performers of Labyrinth of Jareth. You can visit the website here.
15. If you could cosplay as anyone and money was no issue who would it be?
I would be a Venus weed from Castlevania! It is a random villain, she is a beautiful green lady in a huge rose!
